Today as most of my days was relatively hectic as there are so many things Today as most of my days were relatively hectic as there are so many things to do and time just seems to move much faster. There are so many distractions from your commuting time to work or school, chores at home or tasks at work.
And as you move from one thing to do another, you just feel like you are moving through life without much purpose, running your life on autopilot.
And as you push yourself and try to find more time in your day to get more done, maybe getting up earlier or staying later, not taking your lunch break or not taking a break at all, you will find that instead of getting ahead, you feel that you are falling behind and you are not feeling good.
Your mood is not great, you feel tired, hungry, stressed and all these feelings from an overworked person.
Now we know that there are plenty of things that need to get done and it is overwhelming, and the last thing in your mind is to take a break and stay still for a moment.
Well guess what?
“Taking some time every day and intentionally practicing being still, is the best thing you can do.”
I remember when I was going through a rough patch in my life where I was overwhelmed with all the normal issues, finances, work, overworking, not spending quality time with my family, everything was only go, go, go.
Then after a self-review and acknowledging that I needed to change, I started to search for help through motivational videos, books, articles, whatever I could get my hands on to improve my situation.
And as I watched, listened and read more and more, the common denominator was that making conscious effort to find moments to still be the best solution.
Like any high energy person, I was not buying in, but I felt so desperate that I started to practice being still and taking some time to only be present in that small amount of time.
And as I learned more , applied and practiced what I was learning , I found that things were improving tremendously.
For me it was early mornings before going to work just setting five minutes aside to sit and focus on my breath.
Trying to stay still for those minutes and allow myself to feel whatever I was experiencing.
Those five minutes turned to ten then as I practiced more I found that ten minutes was nothing.
But what he opened you might ask?
l started to focus more on what I needed to do, allowing things or thoughts that did not need my attention and letting them go.
- I felt more clarity, a better way of looking at life and the challenges I was facing which most of them were in my head.
- My breathing improved, getting more oxygen in the body and overall feeling physically better.
- And I started to get things done much more efficiently and in a better mood.
There are so many benefits to the practice of being still and there are many books that go in dept to this practice.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, tired, anxious, mad, sad, or are experiencing a challenge in your life, the best thing you can do is take a moment and stay still,
Sit, set your timer for three, five or ten minutes and just focus on your breath.
Inhale and exhale, if you have on sudden rush to do something, let it go.
- If you remember that you have to pay a bill
- Acknowledge and let it go.
- If you forgot to call your mom.
- Acknowledge and let it go.
- If you all of a sudden remembered something bad that happened to you in the past.
- Acknowledge and let it go.
“Honor and respect that precious time of silence and stillness that you are gifting to yourself “
Once time is up, get on with your day.
When you establish this practice for yourself you will see that things will start to change for the better.
Believe me that it is a very powerful practice and the more you do it, the happier you will be.
I can go into more detail but will leave that for another article, in the meantime just set time for you and enjoy this great gift that we can give ourselves, and start practicing being still, it is worth it.
