The Culture of Pushing Past your Limits

Written by Edgar Luna

Sometimes in life you might have these moments were you are just not feeling the energy or motivation to go through the day.  Maybe its because you feel sick, maybe you are going through a difficult moment in your life or you might feel tired because you have worked very hard over a long period of time .

You know, that feeling where you only want to be still and not think about anything, just rest.

However our culture drives you to keep working even when your mind and body are demanding you to rest. So you go ahead, ignore the signs and make an effort to push through.

Sometimes you might need that little push to get us through a day and that is fine. However you need to learn how to listen to your body and discern when it truly needs a break.

Especially in our environment where its expected that you go, go, go, and you need to do more every single day. When you are conditioned to do more with less, there is a very good chance that you will add stress as you will feel that you are not accomplished because you are not being productive.

So either you push through until your body breaks down and makes you rest or you take some time to allow your body to heal and rest. Either way you will reach a point that your body will make you rest.

Not taking time to heal can become counterproductive, because if you do not focus your energy on healing, you might not fully heal and take more time to heal.

Whatever you do in life, you have to be conscious that sometimes you will need to take time to heal properly by focusing all your energy and attention on getting better.

Even though you might feel that you are missing out,

Guess what?

Work will be there and with you being at 100% of your capability is much better than a you being at 50% or lower because you are not feeling well.

You have to work on giving yourself permission to take the time and effort to heal and that only comes through self love and attention.

So take your rest seriously , whatever that is and make an effort to do nothing. If there are pending thins at work, you can do several things, you can ask for help or handle them when you are back.

Whatever you do there will always be work to do, even if try to work 7 days a week non stop I can bet you that there will be plenty of work to do.

Instead take your rest and you will come back to work stronger and with more motivation.

Your body will thank you in the long run.

    Nice reading, thanks for sharing.

Now more than ever on this hyper-energized and fast paced world, we need to be aware that good rest and good sleeping helps you to refresh your physical and cognitive capacities… and the best, both give a boost to your performance on the next run.

same as in the book “The 12 week year”, I’m trying now to take a break every Quarter of the Fiscal Year, so I drain all my accumulated stress, get relaxed by making thinks that are important to me as my spending quality time with my family, make a relaxing quick trip or just taking days to regain the joy of living.

    thanks for sharing,

Thank you for sharing. As we get engulfed with our day to day life, we forget that within our essence we have been created to work but also make time to be in stillness, through meditation, prayer or contemplation. Once we start mastering finding those moments of stillness, you will see so many blessings come your way.
      Best of wishes to you.
