As we grow older we get to that certain age where we get so busy and we find ourselves moving at a fast pace without a break, then when we are found by rare moments where we feel bored, we naturally tend to find a way to get out of that state of boredom and distract ourselves.
You know, those moments that you do not have anything to do and you feel like you are just staring into nothingness. And our reaction to those moments is to run from them and find something to do, grab your cellphones, turn on the tv or find any mentally stimulating activity that will eliminate that feeling of doing nothing.
But I have asked myself,
Why do we run from those moments?
Maybe being still makes you uncomfortable because it brings certain feelings or thoughts to our mind.
Well, I believe that those moments of boredom are gifts, invitations to enjoy being with ourselves and open the door for God to speak to us.
This is difficult to understand, especially when we have never been educated to see this down time as something good and beautiful.
Boredom comes when we have nothing to do, when there is that time where for some reason there is nothing to be done. And in this busy life I think those moments are gifts and instead of running from them you should use them to stay still and listen, observe, feel.
As we change the perception of that free time from being something bad to being something good, you will start seeing boredom as an opportunity to know more about yourself.
The next time you feel that you are getting that feeling of boredom I invite you to welcome it and use it to learn more about you and God.
Take those moments and breathe, observe and listen to the environment, let go of all of those feelings and allow your mind to stay still.
As you grow older and with more responsibilities, these moments of boredom are more scarce and difficult to find.
So when you feel that those moments of boredom are coming, instead of finding something to distract you, use it and enjoy it. Teach others to embrace this time and just be still.
When you find those moments of being still, you will see how you will start experiencing the change within you, to increase the capacity of embracing those moments and use them to grow spiritually and connect to that higher power.
