Getting Back on Track

Getting Back on Track

It is hard enough to stay committed to any activity for a long period of time like being in a job for many years and making the effort to get up every day and go to work.

Or like those committed athletes that go to work out every day regardless of how they feel, however, there is something within that makes them go and work. And this also applies to many other activities in life.

Then there is that event that changes that routine and throws everything out of whack.

  • It might be a much-needed vacation that changes your daily habits.
  • Or it might be an illness or injury that puts you out of commission for a while and you can’t seem to get back to your normal schedule.
  • Or due to forces beyond your control you are in a situation that has changed your routine and now you are in a mode that is unfamiliar to you.

In my case I have had several of these experiences where I have been forced to change my routine and go into a state of transition.

As an athlete training for months and falling to an injury that sidelined me for weeks to my profession where after years of working for a company there is a dreaded lay off and you are one of the unfortunate ones to get let go and you are forced to change your work habits, schedule, etc.

So as you are dealing with that transition where your state of mind and body are getting accustomed to something other than what you were doing for years, it gets harder and harder to get back to a normal rhythm of life.

And as we go through those events in life, we need to be conscious that it will take time to get back to that rhythm and find that consistency.

We need to learn to accept that life is not a straight line without struggles, we just need to stay focused.

And how do we stay focused?

Well, a very wise man said that if you want to move forward and stay engaged you need to define your “vision”.

And in order to define your vision you need to be true to yourself and find what motivates you.

Your vision could be simple or complex just be conscious that it is something that you are willing to work towards and maintain your focuss.

And that vision might change in the future, we are allowed to change our minds and try again or something else, don’t beat yourself up.

Regardless of what it is, use that vision to move you forward, even when unforeseen life changing events happen and you feel stuck.

As you might feel you are moving slowly you will find that time flies and next thing you know you are getting closer each day to your vision.
