Getting out of a Slump

There are times in life where you just feel that nothing comes easy and you seem to struggle to do anything, the normal things like just getting out of bed, going to work or school or just do anything that you consider productive.

Those times might be far apart or often, but we all have gone through those lows and thought that we might not get out of that feeling.

When that happens, we start getting into a vicious circle of not feeling energized or motivated then deciding to stay static, and as more time goes by that static state becomes more familiar, comfortable and tougher to get out of.

Now it’s ok to feel like that once in a while and maybe your body and mind are asking for some rest, however we need to be able to recognize when we are headed to that state of mind that gets us nowhere.

And how do we snap out of that state of mind?

The simple answer is by moving one step at a time and little by little, which might sound simpler than what it actually is.

Establishing short term goals each day to accomplish something that might seem easy but that something that gets you out of that state of mind.

Those small goals can be as easy as:

  • Getting up maybe 10 minutes before you normally wake up and incorporate a physical activity such as 10 minutes of stretching.
  • Maybe it could be reading a couple of pages of a book or journaling, writing something you experienced or better yet writing down what you are grateful for.
  • Making your bed, washing your face and changing into something other than staying in your PJs.
  • Having a healthy breakfast, drinking water, brushing your teeth or any other simple activity that makes you feel a little better.

Then maybe step it up by doing something more impactful:

  • Going for a run or walk.
  • Listening to a motivating podcast or audiobook.
  • Cleaning and organizing your drawers or room.
  • Anything that makes you feel accomplished.

Then as you start picking up momentum, stay consistent and you will notice your energy levels picking up and you will start to see things differently with more hope and opportunities.

Starting is the tough part, once you start moving you will feel stronger and much more accomplished.

If you feel that you are in a slump why not start today? and get yourself going one small step at a time.
