The Certainty of Your Faith

I’m sure that all of us as humans are curious about many things and as we try to learn and find information about certain topics we start to get more interested in those things that we question.

One topic that that speaks to me is the topic of faith.

When someone mentions faith to you what do you think of?

  • You might think in a religious term where faith is a belief in God or religious teachings.
  • Secular where faith can refer to loyalty and commitment to a person or duty.
  • Or a general term where faith is similar to trust and the two terms are often used interchangeably.

Now when I see these three concepts which can be similar, but what they all have in common is that they are not tangible.

So how do you find certainty or build confidence on something that is not tangible and does not provide that factual evidence that it exists?

After all, in order to find certainty or in other words confidence in something you have to see proof that it exists and that something you do will give you tangible results. Science usually steps in and makes an effort to explain, measure, quantify and find tangible evidence that something exists.

And as many people might question whether faith is real, or if it’s something that we as humans use to feel better about certain things we can’t control.

Well in my experience faith in God has helped me navigate through life when I have had to deal with difficult situations and enjoy those good experiences much more.

As I recall the numerous times that my faith has allowed me to keep moving forward and knowing that things will be ok is something that brings more certainty to my faith.

Now in order to grow your faith stronger every day, you have to practice often and just like your muscles, exercise it and feed it often.

As humans it is difficult to understand things we cannot see or touch, but

How many things do you experience or feel which you cannot see?

Think about the air you breathe and knowing it’s there but you can’t see it, you would say it’s there and you would not question it because it’s essential to life.

Electricity is another thing you can’t see, however you see the effects in lights, appliances and other things.

But if you see a bare electrical cable coming out of the wall, are you willing to touch it not knowing if the switch is on only by looking at it?

Now having faith is something maybe conceptual but it’s real.

As you practice faith and get stronger at it you will feel that sense of peace that will allow you to deal with situations much better.

Maybe you do not acknowledge that you have faith however

Do you go to sleep and know for certain that the sun will rise next morning?

Do you question that regardless of what happens, time keeps going and moving?

So maybe you could try to have faith that everything will be alright if you allow things that need to happen and not dwell on them so much. Practice faith by :

  • Being grateful.
  • Forgiveness of others and specially of yourself.
  • Being honest to yourself and willing to make changes that might be uncomfortable .
  • Trusting that things will work out.
  • Focus on the big picture. How you impact others in your life even if you think what you do is small, it is part of a bigger plan.

The more time you practice every day, the better you get at it and start getting certainty of your faith.

The more time you spend on this earth and you confirm with every day that faith exists you should take some time and share, give thanks and enjoy the blessings in life.

After all, the certainty of faith is something you have to consciously work on growing.
