A Zest for Life

A Zest for Life

Have you ever met a person that no matter what the situation is around them, even if it seems that they are going through a big challenge, they always seem to be positive or upbeat and are truly happy to be alive?

And you ask yourself,

How is it possible to always be positive and not be complaining about how things are going?

Well I have had the pleasure to meet several people like that and maybe there are not a lot of them in the world , but they have helped me manage through life in a positive way.

When I think about what makes them be that way, you might say that they were born with that trait or they have been lucky.

But what I have found is that many of these people have a zest for life and do certain things to be in that constant positive state of mind.

  • First of all they enjoy the moment that they are living in. Not worried about what could have been or what will happen in the future. Learning and letting go of the past. Doing things today that will help them be more prepared for the future. Not worrying and taking action today is the key.
  • They are grateful for both, what they have and what they have not received. What they have they use it and what they don’t have they work to do the things that will help them reach their goals.
  • They make an effort to grow mentally, physically and spiritually. Making time to invest in this and being diligent towards growing this.
  • They see opportunities everywhere they go instead of seeing problems. Just changing your vocabulary and seeing problems as opportunities makes a huge difference.
  • They are not afraid of being uncomfortable, they welcome the opportunity of feeling awkward and do it often. They deal with it with a smile and do not take it personally. Knowing that being uncomfortable allows you to grow.
  • They are diligent and do the little things every day,  applying those habits that day by day give them results in the long run.
  • They are and let be. They are true to themselves and enjoy who they are. They do not worry or stress about what others do or do not do.

Now how many of you feel that you do one or more of these things daily?

If you don’t:

What is stopping you?

As we grow wiser and learn more about ourselves we find that we are creatures of habit and we reap what we sow.

So if you would like a little more zest for life, start small and do something that takes you out of your comfort zone for a few minutes a day. That something that you maybe don’t like but you know is good for you.

  • Give thanks for everything you have and also for what you don’t have.
  • Pray or meditate everyday. Find that quiet place that will allow you to reconnect with yourself.
  • Exercise, make a conscious effort to move your body every day.
  • Read or listen to books every day. Find content that will nurture you positively and helps you strengthen your mind.
  • Give yourself permission to enjoy the little things in life. Enjoy the laugh of the ones you love, the music, the flavors, the sights that you might take for granted.
  • Acknowledge your feelings but don’t let them over run you and hold you hostage. Let go and move on.
  • Be yourself and let others be however they want to be.

Try to practice one or all of these even if it’s for a few minutes a day and you will see a big difference.

A zest for life is not something you are necessarily born with or inherit, it is something you search for and work to get every single day of your life.
