Sometimes in life you make certain decisions that you expect will bring you so much joy that you will not be able to describe, basically having a dream.
You set some type of expectation and visualize a plan and how things will work out by taking that road towards fulfilling your dream.
That dream could entail you moving to a certain place for school or work, choosing a specific major to study, moving in or marrying someone and many other life scenarios that you will face during your lifetime.
Then after you made your choice and started walking that path that in your mind was what you wanted, you started facing some challenges.
“Maybe things are not going as you expected.“
Instead of being happy about the choice you made you start feeling unhappy and struggle to get motivated each day to keep going with a positive attitude.
And even though you know that your decision to take that path is the right one to fulfill your dream, you start losing sight of your ultimate goal and only start to focus on the negative things that you are faced with.
Only getting more frustrated, anxious and discouraged as the days go by and having that feeling like you can’t wait for time to go as fast as possible so you can get out of that situation.
At that point you start looking elsewhere and veering from the path because things start getting difficult. As you focus only on the negative of your current situation, it is only natural to set your sights somewhere else, that place that from the outside looks better, that place that is very attractive because it seems to offer what you are missing in your current situation.
“Longing for that something that could be instead for what it is.”
Then you only start focusing on the good things about the new place or situation and only accentuate the bad things from the current place, blinding your judgment and maybe making decisions fueled by emotion.
Whichever situation you are facing currently you should take some time to really focus on why you made your choice to be where you are, again revisit your goal your vision your purpose. Go back and focus attention on the good things that made you decide to be where you are.
As things get difficult and uncomfortable, you might tend to only focus attention and energy on why we are unhappy and trying to get out, when there are so many good things you can do in your current situation.
Now if you really are sure that your initial decision was not the one you want to continue with and you want to make a change then go for it, you have that option.
However also keep in mind that you will be faced with challenges every day of your life and a place only can offer so much. Everything else depends on how you approach life and see those challenges as opportunities.
Things seem to get harder as you grow older and assume more responsibilities and with that, many people start only focusing on the negative.
If you consciously make an effort to focus your attention on the present, enjoy the moment and what the current situation has to offer you will find that you will be happier.
Just be mindful of what you really want because always looking for “Greener Pastures” is not always the best solution when what you really need is to work on yourself.
