There is a famous quote that says:
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”
And that has always got me thinking about what that means and how it impacts our lives.
So, how many of us have the desire to do something different, maybe have a better relationship, have more time for ourselves, have better financial health, be physically healthier, happier and reach whatever goals we might set for ourselves.
However, have you done a self assessment? Have you determined what needs to be done? Have you developed a plan to get better? Have you been able execute your plan? or are you doing the same things expecting better results?
Well welcome thwn to insanity.
So many of us fall into this, where we keep doing what we do and expect to be better.
If you want to be physically healthier:
- Have you improved your nourishment or do you keep consuming unhealthy foods?
- Have you started an exercise routine and stuck with it for more than a week or two?
If you want to be financially healthy:
- Have you cut those unnecessary expenses like that daily overpriced coffee or go shopping every time you have some money?
If you want more time:
- Have you made adjustments to your sleep schedule so you can rest and wake up refreshed?
- Have you made an effort to wake up earlier instead of sleeping more than needed?
- Have you cut back on binge watching tv series, movies and time on your cell phone?
If you want a better relationships:
- Have you made time to spend with your loved ones?
- Have you made an effort to come out from isolation?
These things that you might want to do are things that take work and doing something different always will be uncomfortable.
Many of us prefer to stay the course and say to ourselves that we are OK where we are and ignore the signs that we are headed towards potentially harmful results with our current choices. To the point of justifying and denying what we do regularly even though the results are obvious.
How many people you know say I don’t drink or eat unhealthy food, and when they go for their physical, the results show some type of deficiency, and they still say,
I don’t know why the results are so bad, I don’t eat bad things?
Same is financially people complaining that they can’t make payments, however they have spent money on things that they don’t need and say,
I don’t spend that much?
Relationship wise you wonder why your children, spouse or friends do not share with you, when you do not take time to be with them because you are tired or need to do something else and then say,
I don’t know why my kids don’t talk to me?
Everything you do compounds and produces certain results so don’t be surprised if you are getting the results you are getting.
However, there will be signs that will tell you that you need to change, the deeper into your current lifestyle you are the more impactful the the sign will be .
The sign might be that you get your doctor that will tell you need to improve your nourishment vs him telling you you have a serious disease caused by your poor habits.
Maybe an alert from the bank that you are over drafted vs a reposition of your car or home.
Maybe a invitation from your child to go play with him or spouse to have a date vs your child not wanting anything with you or a divorce.
I get it, it takes work and effort to change and the comfort of staying where you are maybe outweighs the discontent you feel about your current life.
However if you want to have different results, there is no other way then to change the way you approach every single day of our lives.
Itvi very comun to hear, people constantly wish to have different results but they are not willing to do the little daily things that will change their lives.
And it is tough to change, however you have a choice to keep complaining about you current results and face the consequences, or do something about it and start new habits that will bring you better results.
“Or,maybe you are that one person in the universe that can keep doing the same things over and over again and have different results, if you really believe that then you are a perfect example of insanity.“
