During our lifetime we have many experiences and sometimes we consider some of them to be good and sometimes bad. When I was younger and anytime I was going through a tough experience, my dad would tell me to keep my spirits up and senses in high alert, because when one door shuts another opens.
Have you ever heard that when one door closes, one or several doors open?
What does that mean to you?
For me it’s a very powerful truth and one that I have experienced several times in my life. Because if we are aware and our senses heightened, we will see doors open or opportunities to do something different all around us. Yes, maybe it’s scary and unfamiliar when that door opens, but we need to be courageous and walk with confidence through that open door and have a taste of that unfamiliar experience.
Most of the times when we think that we are ready to go through that door and we walk towards it, it seems that there are roadblocks that prevent us from going through. Maybe something happens that makes us question our commitment to go across that door. Maybe we do not feel prepared and that we lack the knowledge of what that new experience brings.
Why does it seem that when we are ready to go across that door, stuff happens?
Maybe a loved one is going through hard times and either needs our help or we feel guilty of taking that step. Maybe we feel the fear of the unknown and do not like to deal with uncomfortable feelings. Whatever reason we have to not go through that open door, we need to make a relatively quick decision to go across, because that door will not stay open forever, it will only be open for a relatively short period of time and if you dwell and think too much about it that specific moment in time will then be gone forever.
Many of us attach ourselves to things that we are familiar with, even if they do not make us happy. Also attaching ourselves to situations that we do not have any control over, make us create uncertainty and doubt in our decision to go through that open door. However, like everything in life, time keeps moving and the world keeps turning.
So why not go through that open door and experience something different and exciting?
What is stopping you?
Feeling nervous about a new experience is part of the joys of life, part of growing as a person, “Comfort zones are great, but you must get uncomfortable in order to grow”.
That is why they call them “Growing Pains”.
Hopefully whenever you think you are going through a tough experience that might be life changing, make sure you open your eyes and ears so you give yourself a chance to identify when doors open throughout your life, so you can take advantage of all those opportunities that are given to us. Believe me opportunities will always come and go, you just need to be willing to take those steps towards and through that open door .
You will always find reasons not to go across that open door, it is very easy to come up with reasons not to do uncomfortable things, however I know that if you go across that door and have faith that everything will be alright,” it will be”.
